Product-tracing Investigation

Investigation to follow the movement of a food product and its constituents through the stages of production, processing and distribution, both backward and forward. Trace-back is the ability to trace a food product from the point of sale back to the source (ultimately the farm). Conversely, trace-forward is the ability to trace a food product from the source (ultimately the farm) forward to the point of sale. Product tracing may encompass trace-back and trace-forward.
