Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE)

A technique used for the separation of large deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules by applying to a gel matrix an electric field that periodically changes direction. It is commonly considered a gold standard in epidemiological studies of pathogenic organisms.
